Gozney Arc XL Natural Gas: What the Manual Says
9 min read · by Arjun Mehta · Last updated: November 6, 2026
Gozney Arc XL natural gas is not a supported setup. The official Arc and Arc XL technical manual lists butane, propane or their mixture, which are LPG gases, and it does not list natural gas. Check the gas type on your unit’s data plate before you connect anything.
Some retailer listings use the phrase natural gas in their titles. The manual is the reliable reference, so every safety figure in this guide comes from it.
Gas appliances carry fire and explosion risk. Follow the manual and your local rules, and have a qualified person check any gas installation.
Gozney Arc XL natural gas: is it supported?
No. The Arc XL is built for LPG cylinders, and its technical manual does not describe a natural gas connection. According to Gozney’s Arc and Arc XL technical manual, the gas types listed are butane and propane, not natural gas.
The same manual says the appliance must not be modified. A change of fuel would alter the burner set-up, and the manual describes no conversion kit. The manual describes no natural gas conversion for this model, so treat any listing that claims one with caution.
Shoppers often search for Gozney Arc XL natural gas options because they already have a natural gas line at home. For that reason, the manual’s gas table is the first thing to check. A Gozney Arc XL natural gas plan does not match the manual’s listed gas types, so it does not meet the manufacturer’s instructions.
Before you buy anything sold as Gozney Arc XL natural gas, compare the model name, the data plate and the manufacturer’s manual. The standard model gets the same answer in the standard Arc natural gas question.
Which gas types the Arc XL manual lists
The Arc XL gas table lists butane, propane and butane-propane mixtures, with the regulated pressure set for each market. Gozney Arc XL natural gas does not appear in any row of that table. In Gozney’s US and Canada Arc manual, the data plate lists propane at 11 inches W.C., with 17,500 BTU/h for the Arc XL and 14,400 BTU/h for the Arc.
| Gas type | Listed in the Arc XL manual |
|---|---|
| Propane | Yes, in several market configurations |
| Butane | Yes, in several market configurations |
| Butane, propane or their mixture | Yes, as a combined category |
| Natural gas | No, not in any gas category |
To check your own unit, find the data plate page in the manual or the label on the appliance. Match the gas listed there with the cylinder you plan to use. The manual asks owners to check the gas on that page before connecting. The same page lists model numbers for both the Arc and the Arc XL, so match the number printed on your unit with the manual before you buy a cylinder.
How to connect a gas cylinder safely
The manual recommends a 9 kg gas bottle as a minimum, with a regulator that meets EN16129 or EN12864 between the cylinder and the oven.

- Use a cylinder with a safety collar. Do not use one that is rusty, dented or has a damaged valve.
- Fit the regulator following its own instructions. Do not force it, because that can damage the gas bottle.
- Keep the gas hose at 1.5 m or less. In Finland the limit is 1.2 m. Keep it away from hot surfaces and direct sunlight.
- Replace a hose that shows abrasion or wear with a Gozney approved hose assembly before use.
- Run a leak test before first use, after every refill, and whenever the hose or regulator has been disconnected.
- Check for leaks with a soap and water solution. Never use a naked flame.
If you smell gas, shut off the cylinder valve, turn off the appliance, put out any open flames and move away. Then contact your gas supplier or the fire service. Do not store a spare cylinder under or near the appliance, and do not connect more than one cylinder.
Where to place the Arc XL
Place the Arc XL outdoors on a level, stable surface that can carry about 25 kg. The manual sets clear distances that apply to every installation.
- 30 cm clearance at the back and sides from any combustible construction.
- 100 cm clearance at the front from any combustible construction.
- At least 1.5 m from any structure, combustible material or other gas cylinder.
- At least 7.5 m from any flammable liquid.
- The gas cylinder stays upright, outdoors and never under the oven.
The manual also says never to run the oven in an enclosed area or in high winds. Turn the mouth away from the wind and keep the area around the base clear for air intake. The Arc and Arc XL size comparison shows how much counter space each model needs. The manual says the oven must never be left unattended, because some foods produce flammable fats and juices.
If a grease or fat fire starts, turn off the burner knob and the cylinder valve, and remove the food. The manual warns that you should not fight an oil or grease fire with water.
How to light the Arc XL and run the first firing
Lighting follows a fixed sequence in the manual, and the flame failure device needs a short hold before it stays lit. Follow the steps in order each time you start the oven, and use the Arc XL manual walkthrough for the parts list and controls.
Before the first firing, check the oven, burner and venturi for blockages, such as food residue or insect nests. The manual says nests can be dangerous and must be cleared out thoroughly. The burner is rated at 5.5 kW, about 390 g/h of gas, for the Arc XL. For help clearing soot and residue, see how to clean the Gozney Arc XL safely.
- Remove the stone retention wedges before lighting.
- Press the control knob in and turn it to 9 o’clock until you hear a click and the burner ignites.
- Turn the knob anti-clockwise to 7 o’clock and hold it there for up to 30 seconds.
- Push the knob in firmly, then release it. The flame should be yellow and roll along the top of the oven.
The first firing needs a medium to low flame for about 30 minutes to cure the oven before you raise the heat. If the flame goes out, turn off the knob and the cylinder valve, then wait 5 minutes before relighting.
Cold weather changes the result. The manual warns that below 0°C, a gas cylinder loses power, so a small flame is expected.
Temperature ranges for pizza
The manual gives 430 to 480°C as the recommended range for Neapolitan pizza, and 370 to 430°C for Roman style pizza.

| Style | Range in the manual |
|---|---|
| New York style | 320 to 370°C |
| Roman style | 370 to 430°C |
| Neapolitan | 430 to 480°C |
| Too hot | Above 480°C |
The manual also sets a hard limit. Running the oven above 700°C may damage the unit, so turn the gas burner off and let the oven cool naturally if you reach that point. Insert the digital temperature probe fully into its socket at the back of the oven, so the reading reflects the cooking chamber.
What to do if your home only has a natural gas line
Do not try to adapt the Arc XL to a natural gas line. The manual forbids modifying the appliance and describes no conversion for natural gas. Any Gozney Arc XL natural gas idea should stop at that point unless the manufacturer confirms a suitable setup in writing. The Gozney Dome is a different oven, covered separately in Gozney Dome natural gas. The Dome S1 is checked on its own in this look at Gozney Dome S1 natural gas.
If you want to cook with a natural gas supply, ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer before you buy. Gas line work usually needs a licensed professional, and the rules differ by region.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a natural gas version of the Gozney Arc XL?
No. The Arc XL technical manual describes no natural gas version and lists butane and propane gas types, while the US and Canada data plate lists propane. Check the data plate on your unit to confirm what it was built for, and ask Gozney before you trust a listing that says otherwise.
What gas cylinder size should I use with the Arc XL?
The manual recommends a 9 kg gas bottle as a minimum, although its troubleshooting section names a 5 kg canister as a minimum, so choose the larger bottle. A regulator that meets EN16129 or EN12864 must sit between the cylinder and the oven, and the cylinder must stay outdoors and upright.
Can I use the Arc XL indoors?
No. The manual says to use the oven outdoors only and never in an enclosed area. Keep it at least 1.5 m from any structure and 7.5 m from any flammable liquid, never run it in high winds, and keep the gas cylinder outdoors and upright.
What is the maximum safe temperature for the Arc XL?
The manual says running the oven above 700°C may damage the unit, so turn the burner off and let the oven cool naturally if you reach that point. Its recommended range for Neapolitan pizza is 430 to 480°C, well below that limit.
How long is the first firing?
The manual recommends about 30 minutes on a medium to low flame to cure the oven before you raise the heat for cooking. Before that first firing, check the oven, burner and venturi for blockages such as food residue or insect nests.
What should I do if the flame goes out?
Turn off the control knob and the cylinder valve, then wait 5 minutes before you relight. Never use a naked flame to check for gas leaks; use a soap and water solution on the connections instead. If you smell gas, move away and contact your gas supplier or the fire service.
Gas safety comes before every pizza. If your home has only natural gas, Gozney Arc XL natural gas is not an option and the Arc XL is the wrong model unless the manufacturer confirms otherwise. Keep the manual on hand, check the data plate, and follow the clearances every time you fire the oven. Other oven guides are in the oven model guides.
